Description

Trail lines from the bottom of the letters IN and WE, with lesser indications in the letters of TRUST, at an offset direction of 200 degrees characterize this Philadelphia Mint Native American Dollar (Position B) trail die obverse. Found by Siddiq Shahid. Die markers at Stage B: obverse at MDS with two small die gouges on the right shoulder of Sacagawea; reverse at MDS with a die gouge under the O in OF. Trail die errors arise from partial contact between die faces during press operation, transferring faint design lines. The Position B edge lettering orientation distinguishes this from its Position A counterpart. Glenna Goodacre's obverse portrait of Sacagawea carrying infant Jean Baptiste was introduced in 2000, and the 2009 reverse depicts agricultural themes. Struck in manganese brass clad at 8.1 grams and 26.5 mm diameter.
