Description
2009P(AS)-25DEO-001T is a 2009 Philadelphia quarter obverse paired with the American Samoa reverse (AS). Beyond the date, mint and tag, TrailDies' code has 25 (the quarter), DEO (design extension, obverse side) and 001T (file 001, trails). The lines, light to moderate, leave the lower right corners of the letters of LIBERTY and point southeast at 140°, down and to the right. The early-die-state coin TrailDies examined has a small gouge in the field below LI of LIBERTY on the obverse. Bob Piazza found the die. The usual explanation is a rotary polishing tool working over the die face; a smaller camp blames movement between the die and the hub.
