2009 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-022
Error
Description
DDR-022 of the 2009-P Lincoln Bicentennial Formative Years cent presents a medium spread appearing as an extra index finger tip on the book spine, a distinctive feature on the reverse design depicting young Abraham Lincoln reading while seated on a log. Cataloged under UVC-2654 and DMR-025, this variety is documented across four die stages. Stage A is recorded as very early die state but remains unconfirmed. Stage B places the reverse in early die state and is identified by a light die crack on the forehead. Stage C is listed as mid-die state but unconfirmed, and Stage D as late die state, also unconfirmed. The four-stage documentation suggests an extended die life that produced specimens across a broad range of die conditions. The Formative Years reverse, designed by Charles Vickers, depicts Lincoln as a young man studying by firelight, and the book spine area provides a compact zone where the extra finger tip from hub doubling is readily visible. This variety is one of the more visually accessible doubled dies from the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial program.
