2009 (D) Lincoln Cent - Early Childhood - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-017

Description

2009-D EC WDDR-017 is a doubled die reverse on the 2009-D Lincoln Bicentennial cent with the Early Childhood reverse, cataloged by the Wexler team. Doubling shows beneath the bottom of log end #9. Wexler lists three stages. Obverse, Stage A: a tiny gouge (dot) between the tops of the I and B in LIBERTY, another tiny dot north of the left side of its E, and a pre-die crack depression running NW through the eyebrow that continues as a crack far into the forehead. Stage B: a short vertical gouge inside the upper right of the W in WE. Stage C adds a small gouge south of the L in LIBERTY. On the Stage A reverse, assorted scratches reach toward the rim from three letters of UNITED (U, N and E) and from nearly every letter of AMERICA. Stage B: a small gouge touches the T in UNITED at the middle of its left side. Stage C: most Stage A scratches have disappeared; one crack starts at the rim and heads south through the upper left of the M in AMERICA, another runs down from the rim, ending at the I on its upper left, and two chips sit at the top right corner of the roof of the cabin. Steven Bernatowicz submitted Stage A, Leroy Putt and Marilyn Keeney Stage B, and Marilyn Keeney Stage C. Wexler lists no cross-references.
