2009 (D) Lincoln Cent - Early Childhood - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-003

Description

2009-D EC WDDR-003 is a doubled die reverse on the 2009-D Lincoln Bicentennial cent with the Early Childhood reverse, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is on the left side of the ninth log end (#9). Wexler lists two stages. On the Stage A obverse: a small gouge above the I of LIBERTY, another between the tops of the L and I, a third north of the E, and a crack running NW through the eyebrow into the forehead. For Stage B, the reverse was paired with a new obverse die, marked by a gouge touching the upper right of the first T in TRUST, a gouge above the 9, and small gouges left of and above the D mint mark. On the Stage A reverse, a small gouge (dot) sits just right of the lower right corner of the cabin, and over the T of CENT, toward its right side, is another small gouge. Stage B adds a gouge north of the T in UNITED, on its left side, and a crack that starts at the roof point north of the chimney and follows the edge of the cabin roof SW. Marilyn Keeney submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
