2009 (D) Lincoln Cent - Early Childhood - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-016

Description

2009-D EC WDDR-016 is a doubled die reverse on the 2009-D Lincoln Bicentennial cent with the Early Childhood reverse, cataloged by the Wexler team. Doubling shows at the top of log ends #7 and #8. On the obverse, small gouges surround the mint mark: to its left, south of it, NE of it and SE of it. Three cracks also mark the head: one SW to NE through the hair at the upper back, one NW through the eyebrow into the forehead, and one NW to SE across the upper front of the forehead. On the reverse: a gouge over the grass, north of the M in the RM initials; three gouges under the NI of UNITED; a small gouge between the tops of the S and T in STATES; a gouge just left of the O in OF; two gouges SE of the second A in AMERICA; a gouge right of the top of the N in CENT; and two cracks at the JL initials, one running NW from the lower left of the J and one SE from the lower right of the L. Eric Axtell submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
