2009-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-015
Error
Description
Catalogued by the Wexler Team as Wexler Variety ID 2009-D 1¢ EC WDDR-015, this doubled die reverse variety on the 2009-D Lincoln Bicentennial Early Childhood cent shows doubling on the bottom of log end number eight and log end number nine, more visible than many minor Early Childhood varieties. Die markers are extensive. On the obverse, a small die gouge appears north of the B in LIBERTY; several small die gouges are present south of IN; a die gouge sits well north of the second zero; and two small die gouges are above the mint mark. On the reverse, a small die gouge appears left of the lower U in UNITED; strong die gouges are found between the upper N and T of CENT; and a small die gouge is located right of the lower right side of the cabin. The 2009-D cent was struck at Denver for the Early Childhood Bicentennial design, one of four reverse types marking the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. Doubled die varieties are fixed in the working die and appear consistently on every coin struck from it. Collectors should use the LIBERTY and date-area gouges to confirm the obverse, then verify the doubled log ends on the reverse.
