2009-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-014

Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team, this 2009 Denver Mint Lincoln Cent from the Early Childhood design shows doubling on the upper right side of log end #7 and the bottom right side of log end #9 on the log cabin reverse. On the obverse, a die gouge appears southeast of Lincoln's chin, a small die gouge (dot) sits to the left of the upper mint mark, and a die crack runs northwest through the eyebrow into the forehead. On the reverse, a die gouge appears below the right side of the E in UNITED, and a cluster of short vertical die scratches can be found between the lower T and E of STATES. Market values: AU = $2, MS60 = $3, MS63 = $5, MS65 = $7. The Early Childhood reverse, designed by Richard Masters, depicts a young Lincoln reading on a log in front of his family's Kentucky cabin. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets at Denver as part of the 2009 Bicentennial program, this cent is one of four designs celebrating Lincoln's 200th birthday. The doubling on specific log ends is a subtle but collectible attribution, with the obverse die crack through the eyebrow serving as a useful pickup diagnostic.
