Description

Denver's contribution to the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial Early Childhood design is represented by this fifteenth documented doubled die reverse, which shows light west spread as extra log ends to logs number 9 and 10 from the bottom, combined with east spread as an extra log end to log number 10. The bidirectional nature of this doubling — west on some elements, east on others — indicates a complex hub misalignment that affected different portions of the die differently. The Early Childhood reverse depicts the log cabin where Abraham Lincoln was born in Kentucky, and doubling on the log structure creates ghost images of individual log ends at multiple positions. Cataloged by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-3086 and DMR-017, die stages include Stage A at early die state, Stage B at mid die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). Fifteen DDRs for the Denver Mint Early Childhood design, compared to fifty-five for Philadelphia, reflects Denver's lower die pair consumption for this one-year Bicentennial program that celebrated Lincoln's 200th birthday with four special reverse designs.
