2009-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-007

Description

One of four Bicentennial Lincoln cent designs issued in 2009, the Early Childhood reverse depicts the log cabin birthplace in Kentucky where Abraham Lincoln was born in 1809. DDR-007 of this Denver Mint issue exhibits medium southward spread manifesting as extra log ends on logs nine and ten from the bottom of the cabin structure — a subtle but distinctive form of hub doubling tied directly to the log-stacking detail of the reverse design. Cataloged under UVC-2778 and DMR-009, three die stages are documented. Stage A is early die state, currently unconfirmed. Stage B is the most heavily marked phase: a die crack develops on the roof above the window, a die crack runs southeast from the RM initials, and two die cracks appear on Lincoln's forehead on the obverse — all confirming early mid-die state. Stage C is late die state, currently unconfirmed. The Stage B cluster of three die cracks — roof, initials, and forehead — provides a strong multi-point attribution package for this Bicentennial issue. Struck in copper-plated zinc, DDR-007 is cataloged in the VarietyVista reference among the documented 2009-D Early Childhood doubled die reverse entries.
