2009-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-004

Description

Documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-2775 and DMR-006, this 2009-D Lincoln Bicentennial Cent DDR-004 exhibits light spread and hubbing to the northeast manifesting as an extra log end to log number 8 from the bottom on the Birth and Early Childhood in Kentucky reverse design. The extra log end doubling occurs when the secondary hub impression shifts the image of the log end element northeast relative to its primary position, creating an overlapping partial duplicate that appears as an additional log end protruding from the cabin wall. The numbered log identification system used for this reverse design — where each horizontal log in the cabin structure is assigned a sequential number from bottom to top — enables precise documentation of which specific log displays the doubling. Four die stages are documented: Stage A at early die state is unconfirmed; Stage B at early-to-mid die state (EMDS) features a die crack on the cabin roof above the window, with the obverse also at EMDS; Stage C at mid-die-state is unconfirmed; Stage D at late die state is unconfirmed. The roof die crack in Stage B provides a critical diagnostic marker for specimens in the early-to-mid die state. The 2009-D Lincoln Bicentennial Cent was struck at the Denver Mint in copper-plated zinc (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) weighing 2.50 grams with a 19.05 mm diameter. The Early Childhood reverse, designed by Richard Masters and sculpted by Jim Licaretz, depicts the Kentucky log cabin of Lincoln's youth. The four-stage documentation framework allows collectors to position their specimens within the production chronology of this specific working die, from its earliest strikes through progressive deterioration stages.
