2009-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001
Error
Description
Bearing the DDR-001 designation for the 2009 Denver Mint Lincoln Cent celebrating Early Childhood, this variety shows strong spread with light hubbing directed east, manifesting as an extra log end on log number eight counted from the bottom of the log cabin. The Lincoln Bicentennial cent's Birth and Early Childhood reverse, designed by Richard Masters, depicts the Kentucky cabin where Abraham Lincoln was born, and the stacked horizontal logs provide a surface where eastward hub displacement creates a clearly defined ghost log end. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-2772 and DMR-003, three die stages document this die's production history. Stage A represents early die state, unconfirmed. Stage B shows a die crack on the cabin roof above the window at mid-die state, with the obverse also at mid-die state. Stage C advances to late die state, unconfirmed. The strong spread rating combined with the extra log end makes this a visually compelling variety, and the Stage B die crack on the roof provides a secondary authentication marker that helps variety hunters confirm both the identity and the die stage of their specimen.
