2008P(JM)-100DEO-003T Trail Die Obverse
Error
Description
Moderate trail lines extend from the letters of JAMES MONROE on this Philadelphia Mint Presidential Dollar, offset direction 320 degrees. Die markers: Stage B, obverse is MDS — die gouge in coat above D in PRESIDENT; die gouge to right of J in JAMES. Reverse is MDS — none noted. Trail die varieties on Presidential Dollars are distinctive because the series features high-relief presidential portraits providing clear reference points for detecting linear extensions. Struck in manganese brass clad (8.1 g, 26.5 mm), the Presidential Dollar series honored each president in service order beginning in 2007. The Monroe dollar depicts the 5th president in formal attire, with Don Everhart's Statue of Liberty reverse common to all issues.
