Description

Oklahoma's Scissor-tailed Flycatcher — the state bird, depicted in flight alongside wildflowers on the 2008 State Quarter reverse — shares die production with this doubled die obverse cataloged as Wexler Variety ID 2008-P 25¢ OK WDDO-002. Oklahoma entered the Union as the 46th state in 1907, and its quarter was designed by Phebe Hemphill to showcase the flycatcher's distinctive elongated tail feathers. WDDO-002 is the second documented doubled die obverse for the 2008-P Oklahoma issue. The doubling appears on the standard Washington obverse that served as the constant design element throughout the State Quarters program.
