2008 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team as 2008-P 25¢ OK WDDR-001, this Philadelphia Oklahoma State Quarter carries a doubled die reverse produced by hub misalignment during die manufacture. Obverse die markers include a die chip filling the lower B in LIBERTY and a die crack running across the base of the bust and through the designer's initials. The reverse is identified by a small die gouge appearing as a dot to the right of the bottom of the 1 in the date 1907, which references Oklahoma's statehood year depicted on the quarter's reverse design featuring the Scissortail Flycatcher. The WDDR-001 designation indicates this was the first doubled die reverse cataloged for the 2008-P Oklahoma quarter. State Quarter doubled dies from the final year of the program attracted collectors who had followed the series since its 1999 launch. The bust crack and B chip on the obverse provide reliable die identification, while the reverse gouge near the 1907 date anchors the attribution. Oklahoma's large mintage at Philadelphia means raw examples may surface in circulation searches.
