Description
Trails cross both the stylobate and the stairs of the Memorial on 2008P-1DER-005WS, all at 190°, slightly west of south. Below columns 5 through 8 they make the steps wavy, meaning the stair lines look bent where the trails pass over them; beneath the outer columns (1, 2 and 3 at left, 11 and 12 at right) they put only a slight kink in the stylobate lines. Read as TrailDies writes it: 2008, Philadelphia, one cent, DER for the reverse side, file 005, WS. The middle-die-state coin has no obverse markers. On the reverse a small gouge lies just right of the S in PLURIBUS, above the Memorial's roof, and another sits left of the final A in AMERICA. Aisha Shahid found it. Trails are generally explained as the result of rotary polishing of the die, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – none noted.
- Reverse is MDS – a small die gouge is seen just to the right of the S in PLURIBUS just above the roof of the Memorial building. Another die gouge is seen just to the left of the last A in AMERICA.
