2008 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-004WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

This is the reverse half of a pair: TrailDies couples 2008P-1DER-004WS with the obverse trail die 2008P-1DEO-012T. Its own effect is light, a gentle waviness in the Memorial steps below columns 5, 6, 7 and 8, where trails cross the stair edges and make them look uneven. The offset is 180°, toward the bottom of the coin. In the number, 2008P is year plus mint, 1 the cent, DER the reverse design-extension category, 004 the file, WS wavy steps. The early-die-state markers are a faint crack from Lincoln's brow to his hairline on the obverse and light scratches in and around EPU on the reverse. Jason Dick found the pair. Most attribute trails of this kind to die polishing with a rotary buff, and a minority to the die moving against the hub.
