2008 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-003T Trail Die Reverse

Description

The trails on 2008P-1DER-003T are faint and point up and to the left, at 300°, west-northwest. They start at the upper edges of EPU's letters, at ES in STATES, at O in OF and at AM in AMERICA. As a TrailDies file number, it marks a 2008 cent struck at Philadelphia (2008P, 1), a reverse design extension (DER), file 003 and trails (T); this one has no wavy steps. The early-die-state coin TrailDies lists has two long scratches beneath TRUST and slanting scratches below Lincoln's chin on the obverse, with nothing noted on the reverse. Louis Schaeffer found it. The explanation usually offered is polishing of the die with a rotary buff; a less common one points to the die moving against the hub.

• Stage “A”, obverse is EDS – two long die scratches are under the word TRUST. Diagonal scratches are seen under Lincoln’s chin.
• Reverse is EDS – none noted.
