2008 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-002WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Every line on 2008P-1DER-002WS runs at 190°, just west of due south. The fluting of columns 2 and 3 reaches lightly into the stylobate; the stairs bend lightly under columns 5 to 8 to give wavy steps; and further trails come off the top of the U in UNITED. TrailDies' code joins the date and mint (2008P), the cent (1), the reverse-side category DER, file 002 and WS for wavy steps. Two die states are listed. At stage A (early) a crack with chips crosses the top of column 1 and curves into the cornice above the first bay; at stage B (middle) there is a clash mark below Lincoln's ear and a chip in column 2. Jason Dick of Ohio found the die, and Chuck Chichinski found the stage B coin. Trails are usually blamed on rotary polishing of the die; some think the die moved against the hub.

• Reveres is EDS – a die crack is seen along with die chips in the top of column1, arching over into the cornice above bay 1.
• Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – a die clash is seen below Lincoln’s ear.
• Reverse is MDS – a die chip is seen in column 2.
