2008 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-001WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

2008P-1DER-001WS carries two sets of lines pointing different ways. Under the central columns, 5 through 8, the Memorial's stairs ripple moderately at 180°, straight down; that rippling is what TrailDies calls wavy steps, trails cutting across the stairs so they look bent. Separately, one trail leaves the right end of the crossbar of the T in CENT and runs east, 090°, toward the right rim. The code opens with 2008 and P, then the cent's 1, then DER, TrailDies' label for a reverse design extension, then file 001 and the wavy-step suffix WS. On the early-die-state coin, gouges sit in the field below the U of UNITED and a faint crack drops from the base of the right urn into column 10; the obverse has none listed. Louis Schaeffer found it. The standard explanation is polishing of the die with a rotary buff, with die-to-hub movement as the alternative view.
