Description
A late-die-state 2008 Philadelphia cent, 2008P-1DEO-016T has trails beneath the date digits that run due south, 180°, toward the rim below. The parts of the number are the date and P mint, 1 for one cent, the obverse design-extension code DEO, file 016 and the trail suffix T. TrailDies' coin is heavily cracked: one crack crosses Lincoln's forehead and a second, studded with chips, arcs over the top of his head. Its reverse shows a chip at the top of column 1 and a crack at the top of column 2. Robert Pelletier found it. Trails are linked most often to polishing of the die with a rotary tool; some instead trace them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “C“, obverse is LDS – a die crack is seen in Lincoln’s forehead. Another die crack with die chips runs across the top of Lincoln’s head.
- Reverse is LDS – a die chip is seen in the top of column 1. A die crack is seen in the top of column 2.
