2008 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-014T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Trails drop from the lower left corners of the LIBERTY letters on 2008P-1DEO-014T and head toward 200°, south-southwest, so they lean down and a little to the left. That code stands for a 2008 cent from Philadelphia, with DEO marking an obverse design extension, 014 as the file number and T for the trail type. TrailDies is brief on markers: the early-die-state coin it lists has only a tiny dot inside the W of WE on the obverse, and nothing noted on the reverse. David Miller found the die. Polishing with a rotary buff is the explanation given for trails by most writers, while another view puts them down to die-against-hub movement.
