2008 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-013T Trail Die Obverse

Description

On 2008P-1DEO-013T the trails come from three places: the lower right corners of IBRTY in LIBERTY (as TrailDies spells the group), Lincoln's nose and lips, and the 2 of the date. All run at 160°, south-southeast, toward the bottom of the coin and slightly right. In TrailDies' scheme 2008P is the date with the Philadelphia mint, the digit 1 stands for the cent, DEO is the obverse design-extension category, 013 is the file, and T marks trails. The coin described is early middle die state, with several heavy cracks through Lincoln's hair and forehead; on its reverse a chip sits low in column 2 of the Memorial and a smaller one low in column 3. David Miller found it. Trails are generally put down to polishing of the die with a rotary tool, though some believe the die moved against the hub.

Die Markers

• Stage “B”, obverse is EMDS – several large die cracks are seen in Lincolns hair and forehead.
• Reverse is EMDS – a die chip is seen in the lower part of column 2. Another smaller die chip is seen in the lower portion of column 3.
