Description
2008P-1DEO-012T is an obverse trail die that TrailDies pairs with a wavy-step reverse, 2008P-1DER-004WS, so both sides of the coin show the effect. Taken apart, the code is the year and mint (2008, P), the one-cent denomination, DEO for obverse design extension, file 012 and T. Moderate trails come off the bottom left of each letter in LIBERTY and slant down to the lower left at 200°, a little west of due south. On this early-die-state pair a thin crack climbs from Lincoln's brow to his hairline, and fine scratches mark the reverse in and around the motto letters EPU. Jason Dick found it. The usual account of trails is rotary polishing of the die face; a minority sees die movement against the hub instead.
