2008 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-011T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Faint lines hang below the digits of the date on 2008P-1DEO-011T, pointing roughly straight down the coin; TrailDies gives the offset as about 180°, due south. The number reads as a 2008 Philadelphia strike (2008P), denomination 1 for the cent, DEO for a design extension on the obverse, file 011 and a closing T for trails. TrailDies describes an early-die-state coin. On its obverse a crack runs through Lincoln's forehead, and on the reverse a pair of gouges, run together, sits just above the left tip of the Memorial's base. Jeremy Gardner found the die. Most specialists credit trails to polishing of the die with a rotary buff, and some instead attribute them to the die moving against the hub.

• Reverse is EDS – two joined die gouges are seen above the left base tip.
