2008 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-008T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Light trails come from the top left corners of LIBER in LIBERTY on 2008P-1DEO-008T, at 340°, north-northwest. In TrailDies' numbering, 2008P is a Philadelphia 2008 coin, 1 a cent, DEO an obverse extension, 008 the file and T a trail die. The coin is late die state: the obverse has no markers, and the reverse has a small gouge below the A of STATES, under its left leg, plus cracks high in columns 2, 3 and 4. Louis Schaeffer found the die. Trails are generally blamed on rotary polishing of the die; some believe the die moved against the hub.

Die Markers

• Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – none noted.
• Reverse is LDS – small die gouge under the left leg of the A in STATES. Die cracks are seen in the upper parts of columns 2, 3 and 4.
