Description

Found by Jeremy Gardner, this 2008 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent exhibits light trail lines from the left top corners of the letters in LIBERTY at an offset direction of 320 degrees. Cataloged by Trail Dies at Stage A (EDS): a small die gouge below the space between the two zeros in the date on the obverse; no markers noted on the reverse. Trail die varieties result from slight mechanical displacement during hubbing, leaving faint raised ghost impressions near primary design elements. Composed of copper-plated zinc at 2.5 grams and 19.05 mm, the 2008-P was among the final issues of Gasparro's Memorial reverse before the 2009 bicentennial designs. The 320-degree offset angle places the trail direction toward the upper-left quadrant.

Die Markers

  • Stage “A”, obverse is EDS – small die gouge is seen just below the space between the two zeros in the date.
  • Reverse is EDS – none noted.
