2008 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-004T Trail Die Obverse

Description

2008P-1DEO-004T has trails from the upper left corners of the letters of TRUST, with fainter lines from the LIBER of LIBERTY, offset at 010°, a few degrees east of north. Its number combines 2008P (year and mint), 1 (the cent), DEO (the obverse carries the extension), 004 (file) and T (trails). The early-die-state obverse has a crack at the back of Lincoln's head angling toward WE and a gouge below the ER of TRUST; no reverse markers are noted. Louis Schaeffer found the die. The common explanation for trails is polishing of the die with a rotary tool, with some attributing them to die movement against the hub.
