2008 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-002T Trail Die Obverse

Description

On 2008P-1DEO-002T moderate trails rise from the tops of the date digits and faint ones from the top right corners of IBERTY in LIBERTY, all at 010°, just east of north. Read the code as Philadelphia 2008 (2008P), one cent (1), obverse side (DEO), file 002, trail die (T). The early-die-state obverse has a crack from Lincoln's brow to his hairline and the start of another from the hairline toward the first T of TRUST; the reverse is clean. Louis Schaeffer found the die. Trails are commonly blamed on rotary polishing of the die; a minority blames the die moving against the hub.
