Description
Faint trails come from the bottoms of the digits of the date on 2008P-1DEO-001T, at 200°, south-southwest. Its code reads 2008P (Philadelphia, 2008), 1 (cent), DEO (design extension, obverse), 001 (file), T (trails). The coin is early die state: the obverse shows nothing, while the reverse has a small dot above the EN of CENT and a small scratch next to CENT's T, on the right. Louis Schaeffer found it. The usual explanation is that a rotary buff used to polish the die drew out the trails, with die-to-hub movement as the alternative some offer.
Die Markers
- Stage “A”, obverse is EDS – none noted.
- Reverse is EDS – small die dot above the EN of CENT. A small die scratch is next to the right side of the T in CENT.
