Description

At the intersection where the second ray clockwise from the Statue of Liberty's head meets her right arm, doubling produces a visible spread on this 2007 Philadelphia Mint George Washington Presidential Dollar reverse. The Wexler Team attributed this as WDDR-017 with Wexler Variety ID 2007-P $1 GW WDDR-017, noting no cross-references to other attribution organizations. Reverse die markers include a small die gouge to the right of the lower first S in STATES and another small die gouge to the right of the bottom of the I in AMERICA, while the obverse shows no significant markers. The Presidential Dollar program (2007-2016) featured a common reverse design by Don Everhart depicting the Statue of Liberty, with each obverse honoring a different president in order of service. George Washington inaugurated the series in 2007, and the Statue of Liberty reverse — with its radiating crown rays, raised torch, and flowing robes — provided substantially more design complexity than the Sacagawea Dollar reverse it partially replaced. Doubled die reverses on Presidential Dollars are particularly notable because the ray-and-arm intersection area involves crossing design elements at acute angles, which makes even minor hub displacement visually detectable. The Philadelphia Mint produced approximately 176.68 million George Washington Presidential Dollars, and WDDR-017 represents one of at least seventeen documented reverse doubled dies for this inaugural issue.
