2007 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

Designated WDDO-001 for the 2007 Philadelphia Mint Montana State Quarter, this doubled die obverse shows doubling on the underside of Washington's earlobe. John Flanagan's obverse portrait, used across all state quarters, provides fine detail around the ear and jawline where hub displacement becomes detectable. Multiple obverse die markers confirm attribution: a small die gouge between the bottoms of the W and E of WE, a die crack extending from the front point of the bust west into the field, and a die clash mark running north to south through the hair southeast of the ear. Two die gouges also appear south of the C in AMERICA. No significant reverse markers have been noted.
