Description
Moderate step deviation beneath columns 5 through 8 marks 2007P-1DER-014WS, running at 180°, due south toward the bottom of the coin. WS, wavy steps, is TrailDies' label for trails that cross the Memorial's stairs and leave them looking warped; ahead of it sit 2007P (year, mint), 1 (cent), DER (reverse design extension) and file number 014. On the middle-die-state coin a gouge lies near the rim below the right end of Lincoln's bust, and on the reverse a gouge sits beside the left leg of CENT's N. Jeremy Gardner found the die. Most attribute wavy steps to rotary polishing of the die; a few attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – a die gouge is seen next to the rim under the right side of Lincoln’s bust.
- Reverse is MDS – a die gouge is seen next to the left leg of the N in CENT
