2007P-1DER-013T Trail Die Reverse

Description

The 2007-P Lincoln Memorial Cent Trail Die Reverse 2007P-1DER-013T was documented in Stage C, the late die state (LDS). Die cracks run across the tops of columns 1 through 4 of the Memorial, with an additional crack along the cornice over bays 3 and 4. Die chips are present in the base of column 3. Trail dies produce sets of parallel lines across the design from the lapping and polishing of heavily worn dies, and the Lincoln Memorial reverse — with its detailed columnar architecture and fine cornice detailing — is particularly susceptible to showing this type of die deterioration in sharp relief. Louis Schaeffer is credited with finding this variety. The 2007-P Lincoln Memorial Cent is a standard copper-plated zinc coin struck at the Philadelphia Mint in the penultimate year of the long-running Memorial reverse design, which was replaced in 2009 by the four Bicentennial reverses commemorating Lincoln's life. Stage C die crack and chip markers provide reliable attribution for this trail die entry.
