2007 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-008T Trail Die Reverse

Description

2007P-1DER-008T has faint trails in many places: from the T and E of STATES, from PLURIBUS (its E and first P) and from the first U of UNUM, as well as the left tip of the cornice, the top left corner of the base and the foot of the N in ONE. Every line is offset at 290°, west-northwest. Breaking down the code: 2007P, Philadelphia's 2007 issue; 1, cent; DER, reverse design extension; 008, file; T, trails. On the obverse of the early-die-state coin a small dot sits above the W of WE and a crack crosses Lincoln's forehead; the reverse shows no markers. Louis Schaeffer found the die. Rotary polishing of the die is the standard explanation for trails; some propose die movement against the hub.
