2007 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-005T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Here the trails are in the date: on 2007P-1DEO-005T they come from the tops of the digits, with a short extra line from the bottom end of the 2, all at 060°, east-northeast. The number decodes as 2007P (date and Philadelphia mint), 1 (cent), DEO (obverse design extension), 005 (file) and T (trails). The middle-die-state coin's obverse is free of markers, but the reverse is heavily cracked: a large crack in column 1 runs through the cornice into the field, cracks in columns 2 and 3 reach the cornice, and column 11 has two chips. Bob Piazza of Florida found the die and photographed it. The usual cause given for trails is rotary polishing of the die, though some consider die-to-hub movement responsible.
