Description
Moderate trails come from the bottoms of the letters of LIBERTY on 2007P-1DEO-001T, at 200°, south-southwest. TrailDies points to slight distortion at the feet of the T and Y, which end in an off-centre point rather than a flat base. The code covers the date and Philadelphia mint (2007P), the cent (1), an extension on the obverse (DEO), file 001, and T, the trail suffix. The early-die-state coin shows the start of a crack in Lincoln's hair, and on the reverse a short scratch near the rim, between UNITED's N and I. Robert Tingle found it. The usual view is that trails come from a rotary buff used to polish the die; a minority holds that the die moved against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “A”, obverse is EDS – the beginning of a die crack is seen in Lincoln’s hair
- Reverse is EDS – small die scratch, next to the rim, between the N and I of UNITED.
