2005 (P) Jefferson Nickel - Ocean in View - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-026

Description

Part of the distinctive 2005 Westward Journey series featuring Lewis and Clark's Pacific arrival, this Philadelphia Mint Ocean in View Jefferson Nickel WDDR-026 carries doubled die reverse characteristics on Joe Fitzgerald's evocative reverse design depicting the expedition's first glimpse of the Pacific Ocean. Attributed by Kenneth Russell and cross-referenced as CDDR-044, this business strike variety exists on one of the most artistically ambitious nickel reverse designs in the denomination's history. The Ocean in View reverse, with its expansive landscape composition of shoreline, ocean, and sky, provides a canvas where doubled die effects can manifest across natural elements rather than the traditional architectural details of Monticello. Cataloged under Wexler ID 2005 P WDDR-026 Business Strike Ocean in View, this variety joins a substantial population of doubled die reverses identified on the 2005 Ocean in View design, reflecting the intensive scrutiny that variety collectors directed toward this popular commemorative-style issue during its single year of production.
