Part of the Westward Journey Nickel Series, this WDDR-066 appears on the 2005-P Bison reverse, one of four special designs issued during 2004-2005 commemorating the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The Bison reverse, designed by Jamie Franki, depicts an American bison in profile and was issued alongside the Ocean in View reverse during 2005. Joe Fitzgerald's obverse featuring a new forward-facing portrait of Thomas Jefferson replaced Felix Schlag's original profile used since 1938.
