2005 (P) Jefferson Nickel - Ocean in View - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-067

Description

Following WDDR-066 in the catalog sequence, this WDDR-067 represents a separate working die with distinct doubled die reverse characteristics on the 2005-P Jefferson Nickel Bison variety. The Westward Journey Nickel Series of 2004-2005 honored the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, and Jamie Franki's Bison reverse became one of the most popular modern nickel designs, inspiring widespread roll searching. The sixty-seventh cataloged doubled die reverse underscores the extraordinary variety production associated with the Westward Journey program. Joe Fitzgerald's forward-facing Jefferson portrait marked a dramatic departure from Felix Schlag's classic profile, giving these nickels a distinctive modern appearance. No distinctive die markers have been noted on either side, meaning attribution relies primarily on the specific doubling characteristics distinguishing this die from WDDR-066 and the other cataloged varieties. The Westward Journey nickels represent a high-water mark for modern variety collecting, with novel designs and massive collector interest producing one of the most thoroughly examined issues in the series.
