The 2005 Jefferson Nickel is a United States nickel from the Jefferson Nickels Westward Journey 2004-2005 series — the final year of the series. In 2005, the Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco Mints struck 1,752,529,358 nickels, including 4,640,000 satin-finish nickels and 6,689,358 proofs. The obverse is Joe Fitzgerald's right-facing portrait of Jefferson, based on Houdon's bust, and the reverse carried two designs that year: Jamie Franki's American Bison and Joe Fitzgerald's Ocean in View. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.21 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Designed by Joe Fitzgerald (obverse); reverses by Jamie Franki (American Bison) and Joe Fitzgerald (Ocean in View).
