2005 (P) Minnesota State Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse DDR-063

Description

Cataloged as DDR-063 (UVC-1518, DMR-066), this 2005 Philadelphia Minnesota State Quarter produces a light extra tree floating low and free to the right of the third tree on the Minnesota reverse. Three die stages are documented. Stage A shows both obverse and reverse in early die state. Stage B at mid-die state develops a die crack from the upper left state outline running northwest to the rim, a crack across the base of the bust, and a crack through the designer's initials. Stage C reaches late die state with markers unconfirmed. The floating extra tree is the variety's signature feature, easily recognizable without magnification as a partial phantom tree offset from the intended design. Minnesota quarter doubled dies attracted significant public attention when first reported, driving collector interest in the State Quarter series. The Stage B crack network spanning the state outline, bust, and designer's initials confirms moderate die deterioration by mid-production, providing secondary diagnostics alongside the extra tree.
