Description
A die clash variety documented on the 2005 Philadelphia Minnesota State Quarter, designated TDC-25C-2005-01MN by MadDieClashes. Minnesota's State Quarter reverse — the thirty-second release in the 50 State Quarters Program — depicts a lake scene with two people fishing, a loon, and the state outline, designed by Charles L. Vickers. The "-01MN" suffix identifies this as a clash event for the Minnesota issue, representing a unique die pair that experienced unprotected die-to-die contact during production. Die clashes transfer incuse ghost impressions of each side's design onto the opposing die, and Minnesota's distinctive reverse imagery — particularly the loon and the two anglers — creates recognizable transfer patterns when impressed into the Washington obverse die. The 2005 Minnesota quarter gained fame primarily for its "Extra Tree" doubled die varieties, but die clash varieties from the same issue represent a different category of production anomaly entirely, documenting die-to-die contact rather than hub-to-die misalignment. The substantial Philadelphia mintage for Minnesota quarters provided ample opportunity for multiple clash events across different press setups. Struck on copper-nickel clad at 24.26 mm. Examine both sides for faint ghost impressions transferred from the opposing die during the clash event.
