2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-037

Description

Documented by VarietyVista with catalog codes UVC-1491 and DMR-039, this 2005 Oregon State Quarter DDR-037 exhibits strong spread manifesting as an extra branch on the lower left side of the third tree in the Crater Lake landscape design. The "extra branch" appears where the hub displacement created a secondary image of existing branch elements shifted to produce what looks like an additional arboreal feature growing from the lower left portion of the tree — a visually accessible diagnostic that leverages the natural tree design to make the doubling particularly recognizable among State Quarter collectors. Three documented die stages record this die's progression: Stage A at early die state (EDS, unconfirmed), Stage B at early mid-die-state (EMDS) identified by a light die crack running from the duck's back through the marsh to the rim with the obverse also at EMDS, and Stage C at late die state (LDS, unconfirmed). The Stage B die crack tracing a path from the duck through the marsh and out to the rim follows the compositional flow of Donna Weaver's Crater Lake design, where water, marsh, and wildlife elements occupy the lower portion of the reverse.
