Description

The 2005 Oregon statehood quarter DDR-020 shows a strong spread with a light secondary image: a portion of the third full tree to the right of the state outline is displaced from its point of origin, appearing as a free-floating image out in the field. VarietyVista identifiers are UVC-1474 and DMR-022. Die stages: Stage A shows both reverse and obverse at early die state; Stage B introduces a light die crack across the front of the lower bust at early middle die state while the reverse also transitions to early middle die state; Stage C is late die state, currently unconfirmed. The Oregon quarter reverse depicted the state outline with rivers, Douglas firs, and Crater Lake imagery. Clad Washington quarters struck in the billions annually provided abundant opportunity for doubled die formation, and the displaced third-tree image on DDR-020 is particularly striking given the dense forest detail on the Oregon design. VarietyVista's systematic cataloguing of state quarter varieties provides a reliable reference framework for attribution.
