Description

For the 2005-D Oregon State Quarter, this Denver issue is attributed as Wexler Variety ID: 2005-D 25¢ OR WDDR-007 and cross-referenced as CONECA 5-R-VIII, adding another Class VIII tilted hub doubled die to the catalog. Wexler and CONECA number independently, so WDDR-007 corresponds to CONECA's fifth Class VIII reverse entry. Oregon's reverse features Crater Lake, the spectacularly deep caldera lake in the Cascade Range, rendered with sufficient topographic and botanical detail to reveal hub doubling across multiple zones. Class VIII tilted hub doubling creates displacement following an angular gradient, making detection location-dependent — some areas show clear secondary images while others appear unaffected. The 50 State Quarters Program transformed American numismatics between 1999 and 2008, and the research infrastructure it inspired continues to yield discoveries across all fifty designs.
