2003 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

2003 WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 2003 Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The date, the lower details of the hair and beard, and the letters of LIBERTY all show extra thickness, with strong notches on the lower left of ERTY and the upper left of the T. On the obverse, a short scratch, close to vertical, sits left of the second T in TRUST. A crack crosses the hair at the upper back of the head, running SSW to NNE, and that crack carries a large chip, placed well to the south of the D in GOD. The reverse is itself a doubled die, filed by Wexler as 2003 WDDR-039: its doubling is on the left side of the seventh Memorial column, right of the statue's legs. Its markers are a small gouge under the lower right tip of the Memorial and a gouge touching the O in ONE on its left. Joseph Koelling submitted the variety. Crawford lists it as CDDO-004.
