Description

The 2003-P Memorial Cent carries Victor David Brenner's iconic obverse portrait paired with Frank Gasparro's Lincoln Memorial reverse — a design combination that had been in continuous production since 1959 and would continue through 2008. A spiked head is a die crack or break at the top of Lincoln's head: planchet metal fills the crack during striking and stands up from the portrait as a raised spike.
