2003 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003
Error
Description
Hub doubling on this 2003 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent manifests as extra thickness on LIBERTY, most prominently on the vertical strokes of T and Y. Cataloged as 2003 1¢ WDDO-003 by the Wexler Team, the obverse carries a small die gouge between the upper R and T in LIBERTY and another to the left of the I in IN. Notably, the reverse is also a doubled die — separately listed as 2003 1¢ WDDR-045. That reverse doubling appears on the lower left side of the seventh column to the right of the statue's legs. A die gouge sits between the last column and the second A in AMERICA, and another lies north of the F in FG. Finding both obverse and reverse doubling from the same die pair is uncommon and adds significant appeal. Cherrypickers should examine the LIBERTY verticals first, then inspect the seventh column for the reverse spread. Dual-doubled-die pairings are prized because they represent two independent hubbing errors converging in a single die marriage.
