Description
On 1999D-1DER-004T, light trail lines come off the upper left corners of most of the letters in the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and point to 320°, northwest, up and to the left. In TrailDies' scheme the code is the year and Denver mint (1999D), the one-cent denomination (1), a reverse design extension (DER), file 004 and T for trails. The coin it describes is from the middle of the die's life; nothing was found on the obverse, and the reverse has a small die gouge close to the rim under the CE of CENT. TrailDies credits Rock Hasenberg with the find. Such lines are generally credited to die polishing with a rotary buff, while a few attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
